Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to questions prospective students ask before enrolling in VLOSready.
About the Exam
What is the FAA Part 107 exam?
The FAA Part 107 exam (officially called the Unmanned Aircraft General – Small, or UAG) is the knowledge test required to become a certified commercial drone pilot in the United States. It covers airspace classification, weather, regulations, airport operations, and more. The exam is 60 questions, 120 minutes, and you need 70% (42/60) to pass.
How much does the FAA exam cost?
The exam fee is approximately $175, though it varies slightly by testing location. Some PSI-owned centers charge $96. You'll need an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) from IACRA before you can schedule — getting your FTN is free.
How hard is the Part 107 exam?
Most students who study consistently for 2–4 weeks pass on their first attempt. The exam tests specific knowledge of FAA regulations and airspace rules — it rewards focused study over general drone experience. VLOSready is designed to cover everything you need.
How long is my Part 107 certificate valid?
Your certificate is valid for 24 months. After that you need to complete recurrent training (a knowledge test or an online course) to stay current. VLOSready includes a Recert course for pilots approaching their renewal.
About VLOSready
Is VLOSready affiliated with the FAA?
No. VLOSready is an independent study platform created by a certified drone operator. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the FAA or PSI. Always verify information with official FAA sources before your exam.
What makes VLOSready different from other study guides?
VLOSready is built by a working drone operator, not a test prep company. It features AI narration by Harper and Jake (so you can study hands-free), interactive checkpoints after every lesson, downloadable cheat sheets for all 6 topics, and 529 practice questions weighted by topic. Pro subscribers also get 18 professional pilot tools: Airspace Map Pro, live METAR decoder, TAF forecast, NOTAM checklist, TFR checker, digital flight logbook with GPX/KML export and battery tracking, client-ready preflight briefs, weight and balance calculator, recurrency tracker, incident log, equipment maintenance tracker, certificate wallet, job tracker, client CRM, invoice generator, insurance tracker, waiver tracker, and a full recertification course. It's the only platform built for the complete lifecycle of a professional drone pilot — from first study session to hundredth commercial flight.
Can I study on my phone?
Yes — VLOSready is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can add it to your home screen from Safari or Chrome and it works like a native app. AI narration works on mobile too.
Does VLOSready cover everything on the actual exam?
Yes. VLOSready covers all 6 FAA topic areas tested on the UAG exam: Airspace Classification, Weather & Atmosphere, Regulations & Certification, Airport Operations & Charts, Loading/Performance & Emergency, and Physiology & ADM. Content is based on the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
Pro Tools
What is the Invoice Generator?
The Invoice Generator lets you create professional invoices for your drone work, preview them live, and send them directly to clients by email. Invoices are saved to your account so you can track draft, sent, paid, and overdue status.
What is the Insurance Tracker?
The Insurance Tracker stores your hull, liability, and payload insurance policies with expiry dates. It shows a countdown to expiry, alerts you before policies lapse, and lets you upload and share your Certificate of Insurance (COI) with clients via a secure link.
What is the Recurrency Tracker?
The Recurrency Tracker tracks your FAA Part 107 24-month recurrent training window. Enter your certificate issue date and it calculates your expiry, shows days remaining, and sends email reminders at 90, 60, and 30 days before expiry.
What is the Client CRM?
The Client CRM is a contact database for your drone clients. It tracks contact info, job history, and revenue per client and lets you export your client list as a CSV.
What is the Waiver Tracker?
The Waiver Tracker tracks your FAA Part 107 waivers — night ops, BVLOS, altitude, over people, moving vehicles — with expiry countdown timers and direct links to the FAA DroneZone for renewal.
Study Tools
What is the AI study search?
The AI study search lets you ask any Part 107 question in plain English and get a direct answer with a citation pointing to the lesson that covers it. Full Course members get 5 AI answers per day, Pro members get 20. When your daily limit is reached the search automatically falls back to text search across all lesson content with no interruption.
