Finding a Part 107 test center and booking the test
The Part 107 knowledge test is taken in person at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center; the FAA's online course is only for recurrent training once you're certified. Get an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) in IACRA first, then book the Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG) test on PSI's FAA site, where the Find a Test Center tool searches by ZIP code. The fee is paid to PSI when you book ($175 as of September 2026). Bring a government-issued photo ID; you get your score before you leave.
Before you book: your FTN
The FAA asks you to create a profile in IACRA and get your FAA Tracking Number before you register for a knowledge test. Use your legal name, and use it the same way everywhere: PSI asks for your FTN and your first and last name exactly as they appear in IACRA.
Book the test with PSI
- Sign in to PSI's FAA testing site. Create an account with your FTN and your name as it appears in IACRA. PSI's sign-in uses an authenticator app, so have Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator on your phone first.
- Choose the exam. Pick Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG). That's the Part 107 initial test.
- Find a test center. The Find a Test Center tool searches by ZIP code and distance; check a few nearby centers for the dates that suit you.
- Pick a date and time, and pay. PSI listed the fee as $175 as of September 2026; the amount is shown before you pay. Read PSI's rescheduling and cancellation terms when you book.
Test day
- Bring a government-issued photo ID, as the FAA requires, with the same name you used in IACRA and PSI.
- The center gives you the FAA testing supplement, the book of charts and figures the questions refer to, so you don't bring your own.
- The test: 60 questions in 2 hours, 70 percent to pass, per the FAA's Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix.
- From October 26, 2026 some chart questions use current sectional excerpts that aren't in the supplement. See what's changing.
Your results
You see your score when you finish and leave with your Airman Knowledge Test Report. Keep it: it carries the exam ID you enter in IACRA, and codes for the knowledge areas you missed. The FAA notes it can take up to 48 hours for the test to appear in IACRA; then you apply for the certificate on FAA Form 8710-13, as set out in how to get your Part 107. If you don't pass, 14 CFR 107.71 makes you wait 14 calendar days before you test again.
Getting ready
VLOSready's practice exam is drawn at the test's real weighting and scored by knowledge area, and every question you miss shows the same kind of FAA knowledge-area code your test report uses, so you know exactly what to review. Try the free regulations questions, or see the full test prep.
