The Part 107 test changes on October 26, 2026

Beginning October 26, 2026, the FAA's remote pilot knowledge test (Unmanned Aircraft General – Small, UAG) includes image-based questions that are not in the testing supplement, using clear, current excerpts from the latest sectional charts. The printed testing supplement stays at test centers for now: the FAA hasn't set a date to remove it and says it will give ample notice first.

What the FAA announced

The FAA's September 2026 Airman Testing Community Advisory (special edition) says that beginning October 26, 2026, the Instrument Rating Airplane test and the Unmanned Aircraft General – Small test, the Part 107 test, will include image-based questions not found in the testing supplements. For the UAG test the images come from the latest sectional charts. The advisory marks October 26 as a corrected date: an earlier edition gave a different day, which is why you may still see October 27 quoted elsewhere.

What stays the same

  • The test is still 60 questions in 2 hours, with 70 percent to pass, according to the FAA's Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix.
  • The printed testing supplement (FAA-CT-8080-2H) is still handed to you at the test center. The FAA says the date for removing supplements hasn't been set and the public will get ample notice before it happens.
  • The rules you're tested on haven't changed: Part 107, the airspace system, weather, loading and performance, and operations.

What it means for how you study

Until now you could pass many chart questions by recognizing the handful of figures printed in the supplement. From October 26 you'll also get chart excerpts you have never seen, so you need to read a sectional cold: airspace boundaries and their floors and ceilings, airport data blocks, obstacle heights in MSL and AGL, and the maximum elevation figure. Start with how to read a sectional chart and airspace classes.

VLOSready's chart questions already sit on excerpts of current FAA sectionals as well as on the supplement's own figures, so you practice both kinds before test day.

Questions pilots ask

When does the Part 107 test change?

October 26, 2026. The FAA's September 2026 advisory corrected the date from an earlier edition.

Will I still get the testing supplement?

Yes, for now. The FAA hasn't set a date to remove the testing supplements from test centers and says it will give ample notice before it does.

Is the Part 107 test harder after October 26, 2026?

The rules and the format (60 questions, 2 hours, 70 percent to pass) are the same. What changes is that some chart questions use current sectional excerpts you haven't seen before, so reading a chart matters more than memorizing figures.
